Capital Region Service Commission has announced a fee increase for proper disposal of appliances containing Freon gas.

The rate is now $32 per unit, plus HST ($36.80).

It is the first fee increase in over 15 years for CRSC’s Solid Waste Division.

Units that could contain Freon include refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners. Some water cooler base units also contain Freon.

The Solid Waste Division brings in a technician to properly dispose of the gas before the units are crushed and sold as scrap metal.
